Atropine Sulfate dilates your pet's pupils prior to eye examinations. It may also be used to control pain associated with uveal and corneal disease, cataract surgery, eye injury, and other conditions. The medication works quickly and is available as an ointment and as an injectable solution.

Dose and Administration

1. Apply Atropine ointment 1 to 3 times daily to treat mild to moderate ulcers of the cornea and anterior uveitis.

2. Follow your veterinarian's recommendation regarding dosage when using to dilate the pupils.

Frequency of use depends on the desired degree of dilation and the responsiveness of your pet's iris. Generally, the more inflammation present in the eye, the more resistant it is to dilation. Do not administer more than once daily to dogs and cats.

Storage
Atropine Ointment at controlled room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F. Keep away from children and animals.

It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Atropine Sulfate is an anti-muscarinic and works by blocking receptors in the eye muscles that are involved in controlling the shape of the lens and the size of the pupils. Blocking these receptors causes pupil dilation and prevents the eye from accommodating for near vision.

Warnings
Keep this product out of reach of children and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.

Atropine Sulfate is intended for use on animals only. Use this medication only on the animal for which it was prescribed. Do not use on humans.

CAUTION: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Do not use this medication more often than prescribed. Doing so can lead to colic, dangerous increases in temperature, and other complications.

Toxicity
may cause changes in heart rate and inability to urinate.

Overdose
can cause constipation, dry mouth, and vomiting.

Do not use Atropine on animals with a known allergy to it or to similar medications.
